Having previously purchased a Delica from XL I was impressed by the driving position space in the thing etc but due to my wife needing a more compact vehicle with satnav it had to go,after awhile I was again looking for a mpv and came across a nissan largo which seeems to me after owning it for some time to be a rather underestimated bit of kit,the mpg is good, driving position comfortable, climate control efficient,a lot of room and it looks good especialy in black. If any one has any experience of this vehicle and any hints and tips(apart from telling me to torch it before it goes wrong ) I would be interested in hearing from them. Incidently my experience of dealing with XL having bought from them and having servicing carried out in their workshop has been first rate unlike my brother who purchased his Delica from a outfit in Leeds and has had abysmal after sales service.

I agree !
Largos are underetsimated, im really suprised we dont see more on the roads, seems as though must importers stick to selling Delicas and Lucidas, I find Delicas to be quite expensive on the parts side of things, Largos dont seem to have any problems that i know of, most basic service items etc seem easily enough to get hold of at reasonable prices.
I Think Largos will become more popular, as will the Hiace Regius.

Also,
Nissan Elgrand is very similer to a Largo, but with a bigger slooped front grille.

I've just sold a Highway Star version of the Largo and it looks superb with the factory bodykit, one of my mechanics isn't too happy about doing the timing belts though, there is more to do on the late 1996 models than earlier versions. Would the Elgrand be a better bet for long journey's, as i always thought the Largo lacked power? I'll never forget your Delica Clive! Nobody else has allowed me to sign write their car with XL Autos down each side, shame you sold it, everyone thought it was my courtesy car!

I think the Elgrand has the 3.0td engine that the R30 Terrano/Mistral has? whereas the Largo has the 2.0td engine that the serena has, so i'd assume the Elgrand would have more power than the Largo, but the Elgrand is a bit bigger.
I'l try and find out the bhp figures for each model as a comparison..
Mark, the belts were awkward to sort out.. not what were listed but have done a few sets of them now and not had problems before, unless yours was a slightly later model!

Andy, the Elgrand has a 3.2TD engine, though very economical. Driving back from Southampton, I would say it's roughly going to achieve around 30 mpg on a run. I think they will become very popular next year as people get to know about them. I'm taking one up to County Durham for Xmas so I will try and work out exactly what it does to the gallon, and how it compares to the Regius which is it's main rival for engine size. What the Elgrand does have that so many people want in an MPV is the split folding rear seats. So many of the newer MPV's have changed the split folding rear seats to a bench seat, shame really becasue it's really useful to fold them up and use the extra room when needed.

Since owning the Largo I have got 32 mpg on motorway runs at speeds of 80-90mph,this I have ascertained by filling up to brim and setting trip meter then refilling after run and working out consumption, when I had the Delica I needed in flight refueling I and others who travelled with me used to be mesmerised by the plummeting needle on the fuel guage, although saying that my brother drives his Delica down to Clermont Ferrand tohis farm on a regular basis and doesnt think his does too badly,Icontacted a Largo specialist who assured me that having owned anumber of these he has seen 45-48mpg on a regular basis. Oh and by the way Mark you can livery my largo if we can strike a deal?

Andy, Have you ever heard of someone buying the 3.3 petrol, I haven't seen one around as yet. Clive, you know I I would love to sign write your Largo, but it has to be in company colours! So when you buy your next white or yellow car I'll plaster XL autos in navy blue all over it!

Elgrand achieved approx 27mpg on my Xmas trip back home, I think that is ideal for the size. Also, at 80 mph, it is pulling along at 2800 rpm approx. Rear fold up seats proved really useful as expected, it gives you loads of room.
